Volunteering

Andrew Pickford a recent customer to the Oasis café. We supported him on his bike ride from Manchester to Blackpool for Christies Hospital. A total of 60 miles, 4 hours 15 minutes. Andrew cycled along with 2,500 people stopping on the way for a short break of a glass of orange and a smoke. To prepare for this ride Andrew trained for 12 months and swam as many lengths as possible in the local swimming pool for one hour, walked ten miles each week and cycled 25 miles a day. Andrew has raised £750 on this ride, Well done! Andrew!

We are always looking for skilled and flexible people with an interest in helping those with mental health issues. However, whilst many opportunities in the mental health field usually focus on the clinical, we are looking for people who can be involved whilst sharing or taking part in a new skill. This can be anyone of any age or background that is skilled in any of the following areas:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Information Technology
  • Music
  • Practical Skills (e.g. cooking, decorating)
  • Gardening

This is by no means an exhaustive list and we would love to hear from you if you have other skills that you feel may be beneficial to others.

We are also open to working with local colleges who may be looking for work experience placements.

If this interests you and you would like to discuss with us further, please get in touch HERE

Due to moving to new premises and opening a cafe we are in need of more volunteers.

We are looking to increase our board of trustees.

  1.    Secretary.
  2.    Trustees with various skills to increase the knowledge input to our Skills Center.

STUDENT PLACEMENTS

We have had two students this year, Jessica and Libby. Both have spent 2 weeks each experiencing social interaction and Skills development with our members. Involved in arts, crafts and music.
